Taking a stroll late this afternoon in the Hills, it was easy to see Spring was beginning to take hold. The forsythia have begun to bloom, the smell of fresh mulch was in the air, and the For Sale signs seem to have sprung up overnight, outracing the spring lilies.
While Spring has traditionally been the best time to put a house on the market, it definitely seems like a lot more are up for sale this year in Shark River Hills than have been in the last few. To make matters worse, there are still houses on the market that have been out there since last summer, and even with ‘price reduced’ signs up, they’re still not moving. Granted, it’s still early going in the selling season, so we’ll have to see what happens, but it certainly is a foreboding start.
Another thing that is also evident in the Hills is all the home renovations that are going on. Wander down any given street, and you are bound to see dumpsters in the driveways, additions being added and major improvements being made. Perhaps some of the same folks who might have wanted to sell this year have read the writing on the wall, decided to stay put and invest in their current homes instead. So, even though the impetus for these renovations, in some cases, may come from a negative, it is ultimately a positive result for all homeowners in Shark River Hills, as it is increasing the beauty of our neighborhoods along with our property values and home marketability for when this market turns around.
Feel free to send your comments and let us know what you think about the state of real estate in Shark River Hills. I’d like to keep this conversation going and also plan to revisit this topic sometime over the summer.
